This is us

Hi,

Nice that you got lost on our blog. We are Andrea (19), Lea (18) and Philipp (19) and we are doing an International Youth Voluntary Service (IJFD) in the Church of the Redeemer, Jerusalem in 2021/22. Our sponsor is the Diakonie Hessen.

I, Andrea, graduated from high school in June 2021 and then wanted to do an apprenticeship first - when that didn't come up, I looked for an alternative and stumbled across Diakonie Hessen. Since I had already been in Israel / Palestine for three weeks in 2015 and the country was already very fascinating to me, the decision for a "gap year" there was very easy for me. In my spare time I like to play the piano, do sports and spend time with God. I am very happy to be able to live here for a year now, six years after my first visit to Israel, and to get to know the culture and the people.

Hey ho my friends of the sun,

I'm Lea and I passed my Abitur in 2021. After that, my biggest goal was to see the world first. While looking for a volunteer service abroad, I came across the Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem in a number of ways. Since I am quite active in youth work in my home parish, I could well imagine the work in the Church of the Redeemer for myself. I also play the piano and like to be creative. Now I am really happy to be able to experience the different religions and cultures in Jerusalem in the coming year.

Hi,

my name is Philipp Stübner, I am 19 years old and come from the beautiful Florence on the Elbe in Dresden. I have spent the last 9 years in one of the most famous boys' choirs in the world, the Dresden Kreuzchor. This time shaped and trained me in all areas of life and made me who I am today. But like everything beautiful in life, this part of my life came to an end. After that, I really wanted to get away from Dresden first, out into the world, to broaden my horizons and get to know new ways of life and cultures. At some point I came across an article by the Evangelical Propstei Jerusalem, which also reported in part on the volunteer program on site. Even if I actually wanted to go in a completely different direction before that, the idea of spending a year in Jerusalem appealed to me. So I got more and more involved with the topic and finally decided to go this way. Now I'm finally here, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming year.
